Pura Penataran Sashi is in Pejeng village located east of Ubud.
It is a protection temple of old Pejeng kingdom.
Pura Penatarann Sashi is one in six representative temples in Bali.
It is an old temple that is before spreading Hinduism to Bali. Sashi means "Moon" in an Indonesian language.
"Moon of Pejeng" who is the god of the moon is supplied. "Moon of Pejeng" is a drum made from copper.
There is a myth of "Moon of Pejeng" in this temple. "There were 13 moons in ancient Bali. One in that fell in the village when was, and it was caught to the coconut tree. Because the moon is bright day and night, the thief who was not able to work has been embarrassed. The thief thought that he turned off the light of the moon. And, he went up the coconut tree, and put piddle on the moon. However, the moon exploded at the moment. And, the thief died, and the moon dropped on ground." This is a myth of "Moon of Pejeng".
It is said that the bottom of "Moon of Pejeng" cracked because of this thief.
And it is said that another theory was an eardrop of giant Kebo Iwa of the legend.
There is a population pond of the star type in the entrance of the temple.
The star type is drawn in front of the bronze. And, the person side and the geometrical pattern are drawn in front of "Moon of Pejeng". This is must be unusual in Bali. This is said that Vietnam will show the thing that Dong Son culture of the origin is transmitted to this ground.
"Moon of Pejeng" is a relic to be very worthy historically. This is an ancient relic in the 3rd century at B.C., and Ancient relic that represents Bronze Age of Southeast Asia. And, this is a drum of the bronze of the world's largest class. The size of "Moon of Pejeng" is 160 cm in the diameter, and 186 cm in height.
There is elephant's statue in the entrance of the temple. It is a lot also in the temple. However, the reason with a lot of statues of the elephant is not deciphered.
Small temple that can be seen in about 10 minutes. However, how about recalling the myth seeing a historical ancient relic?
